Margot Robbie, who impressed Hollywood with her performance in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street and is the new Jane in Tarzan, is currently in talks to star in DreamWorks’ Ghost in the Shell. The project will be directed by Snow White and the Huntsman’s Rupert Sanders.
The news was first reported by TheWrap. The site notes that she is in very early talks for the film, which will be an adaptation of the Japanese manga by Masamune Shirow. In the book, a special Japanese National Public Safety Commission group investigates tech crimes.
Bill Wheeler wrote the script and Avi Arad and Steven Paul. DreamWorks’ Steven Spielberg has been interested in bringing the book to life, but it doesn’t look like he is directly involved in the project.
Robbie will next be seen alongside Will Smith in Warner Bros.’ Focus. She is also starring in the same studio’s new Tarzan film, which just started production in July. That is being directed by David Yates and stars Alexander Skarsgard in the title role. She also filmed Z For Zachariah with Chris Pine.
As for Sanders, he has lined up a few projects since Universal pushed him and Kristen Stewart out of the Snow White and the Huntsman franchise. He was hired to make a movie called The Juliet for Sony and Warner Bros. tapped him for Napoleon.
