It has been several months since the Internet got excited about the prospects of The Wolf of Wall Street buddies Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill working together, but that project is not dead.
The film, which will center on the story of Richard Jewell, could be directed by Captain Phillips helmer Paul Greengrass.
The project first came to light in February and is set up at Fox. It is based on the 1997 Vanity Fair story The Ballad of Richard Jewell, which tells the true story of the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics bombing. Jewell had become a prime suspect for the bombing, even though he had helped others get out of the area when the bomb went off. Jewell died in 2004.
Hill would play Jewell and DiCaprio would have a supporting part as a Southern lawyer who knew Jewell. Billy Ray, who worked with Greengrass on Captain Phillips, is writing the script, based on Marie Brenner’s Vanity Fair piece.
Greengrass has not officially come on board yet. Deadline, which first linked him to the project, claims that he is only circling at this point. That could just mean that he’s voiced interest and it doesn’t sound like talks have started yet. In January, he was linked to Sony’s The Director and was hired to do Agent Storm in July.
Hill was recently seen in 22 Jump Street. Among DiCaprio’s future projects in The Revenant.
