October Sky is a true story of a coal miner's son (Jake Gyllenhaal) who was inspired by the first Sputnik launch to study rocket science against his father's wishes. It is in fact based on a true rags-to-riches story. The performance by the actors in this movie is noteworthy and it’s a movie that anyone can enjoy. It’s a simple film about what life is all about and overcoming its challenges.
