8. The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
One the most anticipated films of Summer 2014 was The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. On Jul. 11 the film’s release ended a three year wait since Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011. Director Matt Reeves reintroduces viewers to the leader of the apes, Caesar, who is played by actor Andy Serkis.
The movie picks up 15 years later after a virus causes the near extinction of the human race. Although Caesar and his army of apes try to co-exist with the human survivors, the peace between the two groups is short-lived before a full out war commences. The two-hour film features some violence and strong language, however the PG-13 rated story keeps audience members on the edge of their seats wondering if the two species will ever learn to co-exist.
