Remember when everyone was claiming to be Team Edward or Team Jacob? The rivalry for Bella Swan’s heart was one that spilled out into the real world as fans declared sides. Although most agreed with the marriage that took place between Bella and Edward, others have continued to maintain that the werewolf Jacob would have been a better choice.
Having Taylor Lautner portray Jacob added to the character’s likability. Some book readers who sided with Edward claimed that they preferred the werewolf in the film. Lautner himself was hoping that Bella ended up with him, telling Parade that “The first time I read Breaking Dawn I was really surprised.”
Even the author, Stephanie Meyer admitted that Bella fell for Jacob. According to the Twilight Wiki, she told a fan that Bella “didn’t recognize the much more subtle falling-in-love she experienced with Jacob. She was only aware that she preferred being with him over everyone else, that he was constantly on her mind and that his happiness was essential to her own.” As a fan noted on Barnes and Noble Community site, “Jacob is totally right for her. He is human. He is warm, he's fun, he loves her. . . Bella needs to realize that your first love isn't always your soulmate.”
