The repetitive, touching opening (“Our life together/is so special, together”) beautifully sets up “let’s take a chance and fly away,” a beautifully constructed final phrase for the introduction. But that’s all just a setup for the Elvis-like climb-the-scale yumminess, sung over the I chord, then brilliantly altered to match the I-augmented chord (“It’s been so long since we took the time/No one’s to blame, I know time flies so quickly”) that happens when the drums kick in. But even that turns out to be a set-up for one of the most memorable melodic journeys of pop music history, “But when I see you darling/It’s like be both are falling in love, again/It’ll be just like starting over.” The bridge of this song is nice, but not remarkable. Doesn’t matter. 3 classic sections, each set-ting up the next perfectly, makes this a reasonably easy top 10 pick.
