9. New Year's Eve (Season 3, Episode 13)
Louie has a knack for season finales. Season 3's is a roller coaster, starting with Louie spending all night leading up to Christmas morning attempting to repair a broken eye on a doll for his daughter. Exhausted and ready to unplug from the rest of the world, he gives in to his sister (played by Amy Poehler) and her insistence that he join her family on a vacation to Mexico. After a chance encounter with Liz (Parker Posey), who shockingly dies in front of him, he decides on a whim to fly off to China by himself to spend New Year's. The episode, and the season, concludes with some refreshing optimism, with Louie being welcomed into the home of a Chinese family.
