6. The Great Gatsby

What’s one thing that PLL and The Great Gatsby have in common? I’ll give you a hint, it’s a billboard with two eyes and it’s rooted in symbolism. The billboard functions as a metaphor for moral decay and the corruption of the “American dream” in Gatsby and the omnipresence of “A” in PLL. The billboard makes a brief appearance in season 2, episode 4 of PLL, just mere moments before the liars receive another text message from their mysterious torturer. A second reference comes up in season 3, episode 13, where Aria dresses as the famous Daisy Buchanan for Halloween.
