9. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde also makes a cameo in PLL. In this clip from season 4, episode 14, the liars are discussing the book in English and their class is being moderated by none other than Rosewood High’s #1 teaching buff, Ezra Fitz. But it is not Ezra’s remarks about the novel that are the most telling; rather it is the irony behind his words. At this point, fans are aware that Ezra is a part of the “A Team” and is working against the girls (this is of course before the truth about Ezra’s innocence comes out). However, his reasoning for betraying Aria and her friends is still unknown. Add in the fact that Ezra has not yet learned that the liars have discovered his “lair” in Ravenswood and he truly is exhibiting multiple personalities — how he presents himself as non-threatening around the girls versus how he spies on them behind their backs — much like the characters Stevenson created.
