'Game of Thrones' most gruesome and horrifying deaths

9. Renly Baratheon

Renly Baratheon is the youngest child of the Baratheon clan as first is Robert Baratheon who is married to Cersei Lannister and then Stannis Baratheon. Renly was another man who wanted to claim the Iron Throne for himself despite being fourth in line behind his nephews Joffrey Lannister, Tommen Lannister and his older brother Stannis. Renly is one character that had he become King, I think I would be able to sleep at night. And I feel there are others who agree which is why is death was so shocking for everyone.

After his oldest brother Robert passed away in season one, Renly suggested to Ned Stark that he take the crown for himself and defy all prior claims. Once discovered that Joffrey and Tommen are not legitimate children of Robert Baratheon’s, it is found that Stannis should be next in line but this is the game of thrones where nothing ever plays out fairly. Renly even says about his brother, “He inspires no love nor loyalty. He is not a king. I am.”

Also there is the fact that Renly was involved in a homosexual relationship with Ser Loras Tyrell for several years that must be kept secret. Ser Loras suggests to Renly that they run away and have Renly become his own king. Eventually Renly is crowned the King of House Tryell of Highgarden, gathers an army of 100,000 men and marries Loars’ sister, Margaery.

On the topic of his death, his came out of nowhere. Literally. Stannis had been off his own when he found an advisor, and lover, Melisandre, who conjures a shadow creature to go and kill Renly. While Renly is in his chambers speaking with Catelyn Stark and Brienne of Tarth when the shadow enters his tent and stabs him with a knife. Renly dies instantly and guards rush into the tent and accuse Brienne leading to a sword fight of Brienne versus four guards as Catelyn Stark watches in horror, attempting to tell the guards that Brienne had nothing to do with it.

The pure shock and spontaneity of Renly’s death earns him the number 9 spot as several fans wished there had been more time for the youngest, and most liked, Baratheon. Also, poor Margaery loses her first husband by a shadow creature. Now that sucks.
