1. Ned Stark
It is the death that started it all. Yes I am giving Ned Stark the #1 slot purely for the fact that his death proved that no one is safe in the game of thrones.
Even after he swears loyalty to the King, he cannot undo his big mouth. When Robert Baratheon died, he left a note for Stark which caused him to discover that Joffrey Baratheon is not the son of Robert’s, but Jaime’s, making him ineligible for the crown. He brings forth this information and with the note from Robert, he is considered for treason against the crown and sentenced to death.
Sansa begs her dear fiancé to not execute her father but to show some mercy which is where Joffrey agrees that if Ned Stark swears loyalty to Joffrey as King, then he shall live. But when Ned did so at his execution, Joffrey still allows the sentence to be brought out and has Ned beheaded.
While his death may not have been the most gruesome, it was the first large death to show that anyone can die in this show at any moment whether you think you are safe or not. No loyalties exist as the only people watching your back is your own self.
Ned Stark gets the #1 title as his daughters Sansa and Arya are in the vicinity with Sansa actually watching (she faints) and Arya being hid from looking when the sentence is brought out. Catelyn Stark finds out from a Raven and has to mentally process her husband’s execution on her own, which caused the large rift in the first place.
Ned Stark, you were a good man and sadly this was not the place for you, as good men never make it to the halfway point in this show. I truly hope someone in your family makes it out alive (shout out to Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon for still breathing!)
I hope you enjoyed my top 10 picks and remember, season 5 is only a year away! And remember, if you ever hear the Rains of Castamere playing, RUN.
