While this one has gained something of a mixed response from those who saw it in the U.S., Darren Aronofsky’s passion project doesn’t quite live up to the works that the filmmaker has produced in the past, but it still remains a uniquely engaging re-imagining of the Biblical tale that gives a bold, fresh-faced look at the timelessly told story.
Anchored by one of Russell Crowe’s better performances in years, this big-budget art project is among the most daring and compellingly original big studio films to come out in years. For that, and for featuring one of the best crafted sequences seen in any movie this year (viewable below), it should be applauded, or at least checked out.
