A woman in Indiana is accused of shooting her ex-husband 10 times and then hiding his dead body in a metal box for several days before it was found.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, police arrived at the home of Danielle Marie Green on May 28 to investigate a missing persons report filed on her former husband, Raymond.
Once officers started searching the premises, they were drawn to the foul-smelling box that had flies swarming around it.
Green refused to open the locked box and said it belonged to her ex, however, authorities obtained a search warrant and later returned to break it open. Inside they found the man’s rotting corpse.
The 42-year-old was arrested and charged with murder.
Eagle Country Online reported that Green’s lawyers announced Tuesday that they are planning a battered spouse syndrome defense. Abuse between the two was alleged in court affidavits.
Prosecutors have said that the evidence they have points to murder, not self-defense. The amount of times Green actually shot her ex may be what they use to debunk that claim.
