Monica Lewinsky opened up about her affair with former President Bill Clinton for the first in years for a Vanity Fair piece.
Lewinsky, who became known for her salacious affair with the former president in the ‘90s, wrote an article for the magazine saying that she deeply regrets it.
“I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened.”
Lewinsky also wrote that “It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress,” referring to her attire in an infamous shot of her and Clinton embracing at a public gathering.
The 40-year-old said that the Internet has brought her “global humiliation” and that she suffered public shame in the aftermath of the affair.
The Huffington Post noted that she said decided to come forward about her experience because of 18-year-old Tyler Clementi, who committed suicide when video was taken of him kissing another man and broadcast online.
Lewinsky hopes that her story will help others who are going through or have gone through public humiliation.
The issue hits newsstands on May 13.
