The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released in theaters all across America starting tomorrow night and early predictions have the film set to debut with a strong $100 million opening.
Variety reported that the late night roll out for the film will start on Thursday night showing the movie in over 3,000 locations. Following the late-night showings it will be expanded to over 4,324 theaters out of those, 353 will be IMAX screenings of the film.
Spider-Man 2 is having very similar projections to that of Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Solider, which had an impressive debut at the box office for being released in April.
The sequel to the Amazing Spider-Man has already made $155 million overseas in a variety of markets. The film has yet to open in China, which is also expected to be large.
Opening at this time in May seems to be a pattern for Spider-Man films. This will mark the third time that the web slinger has kicked-started what is considered by many to be the summer movie going season.
Sony, who owns the rights to the Spider-Man character, are certainly betting big on their property, the reported budget for the film which includes marketing was estimated between $200 and $250 million. The studio already moving forward on spin-off films and a "Sinister Six" film which will feature many famous Spider-Man villains, The LA Times added.
This film features the return of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey.
