Alfonso Cuaron in talks to direct Harry Potter-spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them' (Report)

While Academy award-winning director Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) is no stranger to the Harry Potter series, having already helmed the third film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban a decade ago, it appears that the filmmaker may soon be returning to J.K. Rowling's world.

The rumors on the director being selected for the film started spreading when Nikki Finke tweeted the following this morning:

Considering that many Harry Potter believe that Prisoner of Azkaban is the best film in the series, and Cuaron is hot off of Gravity, it should come to little surprise that Warner Bros. would want him for the film. Of course, this could be just speculation, and there is nothing official stated by either anyone from Cuaron representatives or Warner Bros to legitimize this rumor.

First announced back in September that they were going to make a new spin-off series to the incredibly popular book and film series based on a textbook written for students in the universe.

Rowling was also reported to write the film's script in addition to helping produce the movie. Set for a November 18, 2016 release, the movie is supposed the first part of a new trilogy for the studio.

The film is being described as "neither a prequel or a sequel" to the original films, as the events of the film will take place seven decades before the creation of the original characters.
