6. “If I Was Your Girlfriend” - Sign O’ The Times
“If I Was Your Girlfriend” is a rare track in that it is one of Prince’s most personal songs. Singing to his then girlfriend, backup singer Susannah Melvoin, but putting a twist singing about being his lover’s best girlfriend and the bond the two share. Although the second single didn’t do as well commercially, it was noted the song was a highlight on the album and showed a new maturity in Prince’s songwriting.
