4. The original pilot was never aired
The original Game of Thrones pilot has never been aired. Sophie Turner who plays Sansa Stark revealed to Telegraph that the original pilot to the show caused HBO to question whether to commission the series.
“Apparently the pilot was fairly bad. We had to reshoot basically all of it because it was really bad,” said Turner. “We thought it was great [but] apparently HBO almost said no [to the series].”
According to Telegraph, the first pilot was filmed in the fall of 2009 featuring several character differences. This included Tamzin Merchant playing Daenerys Targaryen instead of Emilia Clarke, and Jennifer Ehle in the role of Catelyn Stark instead of Michelle Fairley. HBO didn’t approve so it was reshot with a new director and premiered in April 2011.
