5. Worst Directing
Winner: Parkland
I loved Parkland. The actors were excellent, the story was great, everything was wonderful. It wasn’t that he was the worst director of the year. It’s that he was a director that ruined great material.
Parkland follows the days after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It follows the secret service, Parkland hospital, Lee Harvey Oswald’s family. The film itself was straightforward. There were no questions. The viewers weren’t on the edge of their seat. It was dry but it was also interesting. Where the director messed it up for the film was in the framing. In each scene, the audience was forced to focus on the wrong subject. The background seemed shaky and it made the story fail because of it.
Unlike most of the other films on this list, it didn’t have bad reviews. I gave it 3.5 stars and 49 percent of critics liked it, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
