Winner: A Madea Christmas
Worst or best? I feel like, at this point, there are a billion Madea movies. Madea Christmas was particularly bad. Not only was there Tyler Perry running around in drag, the other characters dressed incorrectly for their roles. Lacey (Tika Sumpter) was an elementary school teacher who dressed as if she was going on a date at a swanky club in a big city. Larry The Cable Guy dressed like the embodiment of every single southern stereotype that you can imagine. It was just bad.
While we’re used to Perry’s sassy Madea, it is unfortunate that this film seemed to ruin the magic of everything that is Madea. His leading lady is funny but if you continue to do movie after movie, it makes his costume seem less hilarious and more like a cry for help.
Rotten Tomatoes called this movie rotten and only 19 percent of critics liked it. I didn’t believe that it was a completely horrible movie, but maybe that is because I spent half the movie thinking about how terrible the costumes were.
