2. Worst Actress in a Leading Role
Winner: Selena Gomez, Getaway
After her role in the underrated, critically acclaimed Spring Breakers, I had high hopes for Selena Gomez. But she was extremely terrible in Getaway. She brought the film down more than the thin story line did.
Gomez played The Kid. Yeah, that’s her character’s name. It gets worse. Bret Magna (Ethan Hawke) is a former race car driver. He gets a call from The Voice, who informs him that his wife has been kidnapped. Listening to this dumb Voice, he goes on a high speed chase to get his wife back. After The Kid tries to steal his car, The Voice on the phone tells him to keep The Kid around.
It really isn’t Gomez’ fault that she won this terrible award. She didn’t have much of a script to act on. However, she is an actress. She’s supposed to bring a character to life, but she was completely unbelievable in her role. It was as if she were sleep-acting. Completely horrible.
