7. Marlon Brando
Marlon Brando won Best Actor for 1973’s The Godfather. However, Brando didn’t show, and sent a woman named Sacheen Littlefeather to deny the award for him. Sacheen stated she was Apache, and that Brando was denying his award due to the treatment and portrayal of Native American’s in the film (and television) industry. The event was met with mixed feelings, and is one of the most famous Oscar refusals in history. Clint Eastwood later humorously mused if the Best Picture award should be accepted “on behalf of all the cowboys shot in John Ford westerns over the years.”
