3. The Matchmaker
Even with Leap Year, there's no better romantic comedy than the Irish classic of The Matchmaker. An American workaholic Marcy Tizard (Janeane Garofalo) flies to an Irish village named Ballinagra to find the obscure genealogy of her boss, Sen. John McGlory, so he can get more votes for his campaign. She happens to arrive during Ballinagra's Matchmaking Festival, when all singles are supposed to find a mate, and stumbles upon a handsome single man, Sean Kelly (David O'Hara), who assures her that she can have a little fun in life.
Throughout the movie, Milo O'Shea plays the humorous narrator and Ballinagra's official matchmaker, who sometimes inserts little-known facts about matchmaking that the rest of us didn't know. A thrill to watch with your Irish sweetheart.
