Sony has announced additional layoffs when news broke that they would be closing their Texas offices. The studio will be closing offices in Dallas, Texas. This news comes following last week when the company announced the closing of their entire interactive department, which laid off 216 people in their Culver City headquarters.
The office will close in early June which will result in the layoff of 15 employees. The Austin office was responsible for organizing the releases of movies that would be show in the middle of the United States geographically, Variety reported.
Deadline added that a skeletal crew would remain working on distribution in that portion of the country.
Many studios are consolidating offices in L.A. and New York, this leaves Universal with the only studio left in Texas.
Sony has been working with Bain & Co. in hopes to find places in their budget to cut. The studio is hoping to cut about $100 million from spending.
The studio has been recovering from large blockbusters that did not deliver at the box office such as After Earth and White House Down.
