The U.S. Navy has confirmed that the pilot of a fighter jet that went down near a Navy range in western Nevada has been killed.
According to http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/02/us/nevada-navy-jet-crash/index.html?hpt=hp_t3>CNN, the crash of the U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18C happened near the Naval Air Station Fallon and it took hours for personnel to reach the crash site because of rough terrain and a snowstorm that made getting there difficult.
The pilot’s condition was unknown when the jet went down on Saturday
afternoon.
The Associated Press noted that officials determined the pilot's status on Sunday, according to Lt. Reagan Lauritzen, spokeswoman for the Naval Air Force.
The pilot’s name has not yet been released pending his family’s notification.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The NAS Fallon is the Navy’s premier air-to-air and air-to-ground training facility. It is the only facility where an entire carrier air wing can train together.
The training complex is about an hour drive from Reno and Carson City.
