Jeff Goldblum confirms role in ‘Independence Day 2’

Jeff Goldblum announces he will be taking part in upcoming film Independence Day 2. Unfortunately, he will not be returning to his role in the reboot of Jurassic Park.

Director Roland Emmerich plans on maintaining Goldblum in his original character of over-educated cable repairman David Levinson for Independence Day 2, according to Screen Rant.

When asked about why he won’t be appearing in the upcoming Jurassic Park, Goldblum responded that it was the same reason he didn’t return for Jurassic Park III, “Nobody asked me,” reports Huffington Post. In fact, the reboot is to be made of an entirely different cast, though following the same narrative as the original.

The news of the two films first hit in 2013, but the extent to which Goldblum would be involved in either project was yet unknown.

Goldblum also mentions that he has yet to read the script for Independence Day 2. While 20th Century Fox originally had the sequel scheduled to release in July of 2015, the release has been pushed back to 2016. It will however now coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original film.
