The legalization of marijuana has been a hot topic in discussion across the country recently both politically and in sports. Now some NFL players are speaking out saying that they believe the NFL should allow its players to use the drug for medicinal reasons and take it off of the banned substance list.

In fact several players already use it for therapeutic reasons. Pittsburgh Steelers safety and ESPN analyst, Ryan Clark, says he knows some NFL players that smoke marijuana in effort to relieve pain and manage their stress, he said on ESPN. Clark is not the only player speaking out about the topic.

New York Jets cornerback, Antonio Cromartie, said in an interview that he believes the NFL should allow players to smoke marijuana because they are just going to go ahead and smoke it whether or not the league allows it, according to Bleacher Report.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated in his annual state of the league address the Friday before the Super Bowl that it is an illegal substance nationally and that the league will not change their policy on the substance, according to ESPN.

It does not look like the NFL has any plans to take marijuana off of the banned substance list anytime soon.
