2. Michael Jackson
The Super Bowl XXVII halftime show starring Michael Jackson really started the trend of getting big, notable artists to gain ratings. MJ gave us classic MJ, glitz, glamour, pyrotechnics, you name it, starting with “Jam”, the into the favorite “Billie Jean”, “Black or White”, a children’s choir singing “We Are The World”, and ending with “Heal The World.” His performance is claimed to be one of the most watched events in television history.

1. Prince
Prince, Michael Jackson…Michael Jackson, Prince; the debate continues. Either could be number one, and either could be number two, which honestly could just depend on the day or someone’s particular mood. For Super Bowl XLI, the purple one gave us his best off of his Purple Rain soundtrack including “Let’s Go Crazy”, “Baby I’m a Star”, and of course, closing number, and sing-a-long “Purple Rain”. The other four numbers were actually covers with Queen’s “We Will Rock You”, Credence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary”, Jimi Hendrix, who he’s often compared to, version of Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower”, and a surprise that no one expected, a cover of Foo Fighter’s “Best of You.”
