Though their recording did not hit the charts, the song has seen chart-hitting covers by the Rolling Stones, Sheryl Crow, Tanya Tucker and Eric Hine. It has also been included in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Others who have covered the song on record or in concert include The Byrds, The Grateful Dead, Bo Diddley, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, and countless other top artists. The Everly Brothers recorded the song in 1972 and released it on their album Pass the Chicken & Listen.
