Yes, you read that right too. The Everly Brothers even did a cover of Neil Young’s “Mr. Soul.” The song was first recorded by Buffalo Springfield in 1967. It has been covered by other bands such as Widespread Panic, Rush, The Icicle Works and The Bluetones, as well as by Mr. Young himself, who has recorded several versions of this song throughout his career, the most he’s done of any song, including a synth-electric version with which today’s generation may be more familiar. This is an unusual song for the Everly Brothers. A ‘60s psychedelic song is the last thing I would expect them to have covered. But they did (and they did it well), in 1968, and released it on their 1984 album Nice Guys.
