Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension was created by the U.S.-based National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to help patients lower their high blood pressure and prevent diabetes. The DASH diet cuts out any salty foods, but it emphasizes protein, potassium, calcium, and fiber. Food groups include lean meat, poultry, fish, whole grains, fruits vegetables, dairy, legumes, nuts, seeds, fat, and very few sweets.
