One of Al’s great covers, this time a Bee Gees song, from before the period when the Bee Gees were disco stars and were a Beatlesque pop band. This clip is from a live performance of this song in 1972 on a TV show called Soul! Al wrings the most out of every movement and chord change in this, making huge vocal hooks out of spots that the Bee Gees had only kind of hinted at. The band sounds like they’re waiting on his every move as he lingers over the lyrics, barely moving his fingers to lock in with the snare, his voice going up high into unearthly places.
