7) "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)"
One of the best grooves. That great soul groove, the great melody and barrel house riff that keeps driving the song along. From a technical stand point, this song has one of the best examples of tension/release dynamics that you can hear anywhere. The verses are tight and constrained, almost paranoid, locked in, “I can’t believe that it’s real,” “it always ends up this way,” not much space to move, unsure, closed in on all sides. Then the chorus comes in with a major chord burst of identity and location. The lost and now I’m found dynamic heavy at work.
