The best Beatles cover ever. Al also did a great Doors cover of "Light My Fire" too, but it’s not quite good enough to make it on this list. This one though has the joy, melody and exuberance of the best Beatles records, with the addition of an unreal tight and thick soul groove and swing. Al Jackson, Jr.'s crisp, dirty resonant snare sound, grungy and real, was a massively important part of why Al’s records worked the way they did and you can hear that to great effect here. There are a myriad of other great Beatles covers, but none so suffused with the joy and the invisible stuff, the spirit, as this track is.
