Nominees announced for Berlin Film Festival’s Forum Sidebar

Avant-garde works from Europe, Asia, and the Americas were announced for this year’s 2014 Berlin Film Festival’s Forum Sidebar. The lineup represents indie filmmaking at its best.

According to Variety themes explored in the Forum this year include class relations in financially unstable times and the means by which the individual deals with difficult times.

Favorites this year include The Second Game, the latest from critically-acclaimed Romanian auteur Corneliu Porumboiu and The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq, a crime drama from French writer of Atomized and from director Guillaume Nicloux, Canada's Denis Cote, known for Vic +Flo Saw A Bear, returns with his new film, Joy of Man’s Desiring, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

American Josephine Decker directs Butter on the Latch about two friends in a California forest and thriller Thou Wast Mild and Lovely. American director Ken Jacobs bring us The Guests. The Guests is a 3-D digital enhancement of one minute of black and white silent film footage. It is extended to just over an hour.

The 64th Berlin International Film Festival runs Feb. 6-16.
