7) In the Garden - A beautiful, starry meditation on a moment of time stopping, bending down to kiss you, and only pure things getting through. The story is of someone leaving and saying goodbye in great sadness in a garden, and then of them one day coming back, changed and whole, and meeting once again in that same garden. It’s as if they came back pure and full where they had once been shaky and undone. There’s clearly the Christian imagery of the Garden of Eden at work here, but it goes beyond that, and beyond religion. Van leans in and almost whispers, “No, guru, no method, no teacher.” The person has come back transformed, changed, and pure; but it’s the pure resonance of unsteeled eyes, the fullness and truth of nature taking hold and no artifice left standing.
