6. Lac-Mégantic Derailment, Canada
Most people remember the train derailment this past summer in the town of Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, that nearly leveled the town. According to The Globe and Mail, a broken piston allowed fuel to saturate the engine, causing sparks. The train's brakes failed and the train rolled down a hill into the sleeping town where it exploded.
