4. Much Ado About Nothing
This 1993 British/American romantic comedy, set in Messina, a port on the island of Sicily, Italy, was based on the William Shakespeare play of the same name. It was adapted for the screen and directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also stars in the film. Washington got to showcase his comedic talents alongside Emma Thompson, Kate Beckinsale (in her first movie,) Robert Sean Leonard, Keanu Reeves and Michael Keaton. Washington played Don Pedro, who brings his fellow Army buddies to meet an old friend. Though there is much comedy and fun in the movie, yet there is also deception, lies and betrayals that threaten to tear a new love apart for good. In this film, Washington proved his acting range also includes comedy as his demeanor was very relaxed and serious when it needed to be.
