10. The Preacher's Wife
This 1996 family Christmas movie, directed by Penny Marshall, was a remake of the 1947 film The Bishop’s Wife. Washington co-starred with the late Whitney Houston and Courtney B. Vance. Washington played Dudley, a charismatic angel, sent to help Henry (Vance) not lose faith in his declining church or his marriage to his wife, Julia (Houston.) Washington was utterly charming as an angel, who ends up falling for the wife of the man he’s supposed to help, but in the end steps aside and allows them to find true happiness with each other and their young son.
