This 1993 drama had Washington co-starring with the incomparable Ton Hanks, Jason Robards, Antonio Banderas, Mary Steenburgen and Joanne Woodward. Washington played lawyer Joe Miller, who takes the case of Andrew Beckett (Hanks,) who wanted to sue the prestigious law firm he worked for that fired him for discrimination because he has AIDS. Washington portrayed varying emotions throughout this film from slight homophobia to downright fury that Beckett was discriminated against in such a fashion. IMO, Washington should have gotten an Academy Award nomination alongside Hanks’ because his work in the role was unsurpassed!
