6. A Christmas Carol (1938)
This story has been told many times in many different ways. A Christmas Carol is a good story in general, and it was difficult choosing the best adaptation. I chose the 1938 version simply because it seemed to be the most original, and it told the story well enough to be considered one of the best Christmas films of all time.
A Christmas Carol, based on the 1843 novella by Charles Dickens, tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a selfish miser. Scrooge hates Christmas and people in general, and spends the entire season being an old grump. One Christmas Eve, however, he is visited by three ghosts who teach him a lesson. The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future show him what his life was, is, and will be if he doesn’t change his ways.
