Actor, Tom Hanks, will be receiving the Palm Springs Film Festival Chairman's Award. Hanks will be honored at the January 4th ceremony.
Hanks is being recognized for his work in the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks and Captain Phillips, Variety reported.
Hanks is coming off of his recent nomination from the Golden Globes. The two-time Oscar winner, was nominated for best performance by an actor in a motion picture for Captain Phillips, reported MTV.
Chairman of the festival Harold Matzer, spoke about how Hanks has become an icon for many generations. “Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of his generation, in a remarkable feat that vividly illustrates the range of his talent, this year he portrayed two real life characters, each a powerhouse performance in its own right," said Matzer.
Past winners of the award include, Ben Affleck, George Clooney and Nicole Kidman.
Other attendees that will be honored at the film festival include; Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey, Steven McQueen, Julia Roberts and the stars of American Hustle.
The Palm Springs Film Festival will be held from January 3-13.
Hanks will can be seen in the upcoming Disney feature Saving Mr. Banks. Which tells the story of how Mary Poppins became a feature film on the big screen.
