Lionsgate announces first-ever dividend after 'Catching Fire' success

Lionsgate is announcing their first-ever cash dividend of five cents per common share. The announcement came on Thursday before the stock market opens.

Lionsgate has The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to thank for their five cents common share. Lionsgate also released Now You See Me and Ender's Game this year.

Variety reported that the sequel to the widely popular Hunger Games gross over $730 million worldwide in its first month out in theaters, this is a $40 million increase from the first Hunger Games.

The first dividends is payable Feb. 7 to shareholders of record. Lions Gate Entertainment (NYSE:LGF) opened at 29.41 on Thursday.

Ticker Report added that this represents a $0.20 increase and a yield of 0.68%.

Lionsgate is planning another profitable year in 2014 with upcoming new releases.

Catching Fire is not the end of the Hunger Games franchise, the conclusion Mockingjay will be released as two separate movies and is already being shot back-to-back in Atlanta. The first part of Mockingjay will be released in November 2014 and the finale will be released November 2015.
