Ed Helms to star in 'The Naked Gun' reboot

Paramount Pictures is planning a reboot of the famous comedy franchise, The Naked Gun. Ed Helms is signed onto the project to play Detective Frank Drebin.

Paramount released The Naked Gun back in 1988 and Detective Drebin was played by Leslie Nielsen. The films were based on the 1982 spoof series Police Squad!. Police Squad was cancelled after six shows.

The original films made over $216 million at the North American box office.

Variety reported that the remake will include a unique spin on the Drebin character.

Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant. Garant is known for his work on the comedy Night at the Museum and the TV show Reno 911 will be the screenplay.

The Huffington Post added that there is no director attached to the project and no word yet on who would be casted in the upcoming reboot along with Helms.

Helms is known for his work in the Hangover franchisee, We're The Millers and his role on NBC's The Office. The comedic actor can also been seen in the upcoming, They Came Together.
