'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is second most expensive film from 20th Century Fox

X-Men: Days of Future Past has become the second-most expensive film ever produced by 20th Century Fox. The comic book movie has a reported budget of around $225 million.

The most expensive film ever produced by 20th Century Fox goes to James Cameron’s Avatar, reported Hypable. Avatar cost $237 million to shoot, that number doesn’t include promotion for the film.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is a highly anticipated sequel to both X-Men and X-Men: First Class. This film combines the story lines of X-Men and X-Men: First Class creating one of the largest ensemble casts in movie history. The large cast might be one of the reasons that the film has such a large budget.

The Calgary Herald reported that in a recent discussion, Hans Fraikin, the Quebec film commissioner, discussed the film and mentioned that the cast and crew are currently back in production for a few weeks in order to complete some additional shooting.

"A couple of weeks is a big reshoot, but there is no reason to read into this news that there are any problems with the movie," said Fraikin. The commissioner went on to say that this happens with large scale films all the time.

The film stars, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, Evan Peters, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Ellen Page and dozen more.

The film is set to debut in theaters on May 23, 2014.
