Winona Ryder kind of confirms 'Beetlejuice' sequel

There have been rumors about a sequel to Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton’s 1988 film Beetlejuice, and Ryder’s recent comments about it have fans thinking it’s most likely happening.

“I'm kind of sworn to secrecy, but it sounds like it might be happening,” Ryder told The Daily Beast on Monday.

She admitted that there’s been some push-back, saying "It's a very precious movie to people. So there are a lot people like, 'DON'T.'"

The film put her career in motion, as well as made Keaton and director Tim Burton major Hollywood contenders.

Burton is in negotiations to come back to direct, and Keaton is on board as well. Ryder said of the film that it’s “not a remake.”

“It's 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia [Deetz, Ryder's teenage goth character] so much,” she said. “She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later."

Beetlejuice made $73.7 million at the box office and won an Oscar for Best Makeup.
