Warner Bros. announced the release dates for the next films from two of the top directors in its stable: Clint Eastwood and Ben Affleck. Eastwood’s adaptation of the Broadway hit Jersey Boys will be released in 2014, while Affleck’s Live By Night hits theaters in 2015.
Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and their rise to the top of the charts. Christopher Walken will star with John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza as the group. Erica Piccininni, who starred in the stage show, is also part of the cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, that film will hit theaters on June 20, 2014. It’s Eastwood’s first film as director since 2011’s J. Edgar.
TheWrap notes that Jersey Boys’ competition that weekend will be the sequels 22 Jump Street and How To Train Your Dragon 2.
Live By Night is another adaptation of a Dennis Lehane novel, the second for Affleck. His directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone, was also a Lehane adaptation. It will be Affleck’s follow-up to the Best Picture Oscar-winning Argo and while it is known that he will star in it, there’s no other casting confirmed.
Live By Night will hit theaters on Christmas Day 2015, which is quickly becoming the hot day for Oscar contenders. This year, Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street opens on Christmas Day.
