5. “The Story of Us”
“The Story of Us” is my favorite song in the entire world. It tells the story of that really, really awkward moment when you run into an ex. You aren’t really sure what to say (or if you say anything at all) and it is just a weird moment. She really hit the nail on the head with: “Now I’m standing alone/in a crowded room/and we’re not speaking.” The way the song is written tells the story of the first time that the couple sees each other all the way to the moment that they don’t say anything. She says, “I’d tell you I miss you/but I don’t know how/I’ve never heard silence quite this loud” and the song is perfect.
