5. A Few Good Men
This 1992 crime drama directed by Rob Reiner had Moore starring with Hollywood heavyweights Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, as well as Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Pollak. Moore played Lt. Cdr. Joanne Galloway, she, Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Cruise) and Lt. Sam Weinberg (Pollak,) were assigned to defend two Marines accused of murdering a fellow Marine. Moore was riveting as she and Cruise collaborated and sparred on a strategy to win this seemingly unwinnable case. When Moore’s Galloway encouraged Cruise’s Kaffee to go after Col. Nathan Jessup (Nicholson) on the witness stand to get him to admit to ordering the accused Marines’ commanding officer, Lt. Jonathan Kendrick (Sutherland) to tell them to perform a “code red” (a violent extrajudicial punishment) on the now dead Marine, it was electrifying. Here, Moore proved she could hold her own with Hollywood’s best!
