10. Now and Then
This 1995 family "dramedy" had Demi starring with Melanie Griffith, Rita Wilson and Rosie O’Donnell. The plot had the four women now adults, getting together after not seeing each other for years and remembering the summer of 1970, which changed their lives. The young versions of the women were played by Gaby Hoffman (Moore), Thora Birch (Griffith), Christina Ricci (O’Donnell) and Asleigh Aston Moore (Wilson). Demi’s performance as a more serious and jaded woman, was wonderful and poignant as at the climax of the movie, Demi’s character narrated that “You can run from the disappointments you're trying to forget but it's only when you embrace your past that you truly move forward. Maybe Thomas Wolfe never got to go home again but I found my way there, and I'm glad I did." A fitting ending to a coming-of-age type film.
